Wolf von Gritznis was an Anabaptist preacher who before 1535 worked in the region of Bretten (Badden), Germany, and was executed there. This was stated by Judith Ruemmich, who was imprisoned in Passau on 14 September 1535. She had been baptized by him and was one of a group of 20 brethren who wished to return to their homes in South Germany when they had been expelled from Moravia. Her husband, Hans Ruemmich of Marbach, had been baptized in Auspitz by Blasy Khumbauf in the group led by Philip Plener. Since most of the Passau prisoners, who furnished the core of the Ausbund with their martyr poems, were adherents of Philip Plener (also called Weber), who was very successful about 1529 in the Palatinate (Hege, 60 ff.), it may be assumed that after settling in Moravia Wolf von Gritznis was one of Plener's adherents in this Upper Rhine region. Nothing more is known concerning him.
