Mount Zion Mennonite Church (Versailles, Missouri, USA)
Mount Zion Mennonite Church (Mennonite Church), in Morgan County, Missouri, USA, six miles (10 km) northeast of Versailles, belonged to the South Central Mennonite Conference. It was organized in 1868. In 1871 the congregation was divided on doctrinal questions, particularly on the ordinance of feetwashing. One group formed the Bethel Mennonite Church (General Conference Mennonite Church) of Fortuna, Missouri, in Moniteau County; the other was known as the Mount Zion Mennonite Church. The first services were held in a schoolhouse. In 1876 the first church building was erected, replaced in 1905 by the building used in 1956. Mount Zion was for some years the church home of Daniel Kauffman, for many years editor of the <em>Gospel Herald</em>. In 1956 the membership was 54, with LeRoy Gingerich as pastor.
