Menno Simons Lectureship, endowed by the John P. Kaufman family, is a function of Bethel College, North Newton, KS, which came into being in 1953, when Roland H. Bainton delivered the Menno Simons Lectures on 8-10 March on "Sixteenth Century Anabaptism." The raising of funds and the organizational setup were started in 1947. The lectureship is devoted to the promotion of research in Anabaptist and Mennonite history, thought, life, and culture, and the implications and relationship of these to the whole of society. The results of this research are presented to the public through annual lectures which are, if feasible, published in book form. The speakers are chosen by a committee composed of the president of Bethel College, one representative of the John P. Kaufman family, and one faculty member. In 1957 this committee was composed of Ed. G. Kaufman, D. C. Wedel, and Cornelius Krahn.

In 1997 the family of William E. and Meta Goering Juhnke contributed substantially to the endowment. The Kaufman and Juhnke families had their roots in the Eden Mennonite Church of Moundridge, Kansas.

Some of the lectures have been published in the quarterly magazine, Mennonite Life, and some appeared in book form. The annual lectues continued in 2006.
