Epp, Kornelius P. (1863-1944)
Kornelius P. Epp, minister and church administrator: born 28 October 1863 in Pastwa, Molotschna Colony, South Russia, the seventh child of Peter Epp (1828-1879) and Barbara (Isaac) Epp (1833-1905). He married Aganetha Schierling (26 June 1864, Fischau, Molotschna, South Russia –18 November 1928) on 25 November 1886. She was the daughter of Jacob Schierling (1824-1874) and Aganetha (Braun) Schierling (1835-1921). Kornelius and Aganetha had five children: Barbara, Aganetha, Peter, Cornelius and Jacob. Kornelius died 30 April 1944 in Henderson, Nebraska, and is buried in the Ebenezer Mennonite cemetery.
With his parents and the rest of the family he came to America in 1875, settling near Henderson, Nebraska, where he lived the rest of his life. He was educated in Pastwa and a private Bible school in America. He was baptized 17 June 1883. He taught in an elementary Bible school near Henderson.
He farmed for many years. He was a charter member of the Ebenezer Mennonite Church, and served for many years as Sunday-school superintendent and as chorister. In 1895 he was chosen as deacon, and in 1917-1931 he was the leading minister of the church. He had a great interest in missions and served for about 14 years on the Board of Home and Foreign Missions of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Conference (after 1987 Fellowship of Evangelical Bible Churches), the greater part of the time as treasurer and the remainder as secretary.
