Brouwer, Wytze Jeens (18th century)
Wytze Jeens Brouwer, a Mennonite preacher, who served the congregation of Heerenveen-Knijpe (Dutch province of Friesland) in 1736-1738 and 1743-1772, when he retired. Brouwer was a Collegiant as well as his colleagues in the congregation, Wybe Pieters Zeeman and Pieke Tjommes. At the Frisian Reformed Synod of Zevenwolden in 1738 these three preachers were accused of teaching Socinian doctrines. On 3 September 1738 the governor of Schoterland forbade them to preach and to give religious instruction, and on 5 June 1739, Brouwer and Pieke Tjommes were suspended from their ministry by the States of Friesland, Zeeman being permitted to preach again. On 25 April 1743, Brouwer and Pieke Tjommes were allowed to resume their services.
