Mashulaville Mennonite Fellowship (2009- )(Macon, Mississippi, USA)
The Mashulaville Dormitory is one of only two structures remaining from the Noxubee County, Mississippi, Agricultural High School, which began in 1911. Soon after World War II, the school closed. In 1967, Andrew and Sarah Miller moved from Indiana to Mashulaville and used the dormitory as a children’s home. Over the next decade, they cared for many Choctaw and African-American children.
In 1978 the Mennonite Board of Missions opened a Mashulaville Voluntary Service Unit. The VS unit closed in 1996. Larry Miller, the son of Andrew and Sarah, along with his wife Maxine, continued serving the community in a variety of ways, hosting many church groups and families. In 2009 they formed the Mennonite Service Center. The Center coordinated Summer Bible School programs, feeding children and the elderly, and repairing homes for the disabled and disadvantaged.
At the same time, the Millers established the Mashulaville Mennonite Fellowship that met in the Mashulaville Dormitory. The group became part of the Gulf States Mennonite Conference of Mennonite Church USA.
