The Good Shepherd Mennonite Church, Bronx, New York, USA, emerged in 1969 from the Sherman Avenue Bible Club that had been launched by the Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities in the early 1960s. Good Shepherd formally organized on 14 December 1969 and dedicated its church building on Sherman Avenue on 26 April 1970.

Changing leadership and the impact of the charismatic movement on the congregation created a division in 1972 that saw some members leave for an independent group.

In the late 1970s and 1980s additional issues surfaced when a pastor divorced his wife, and some later pastors brought widely divergent leadership styles and cultural backgrounds. Increasing debts and declining membership led Good Shepherd to close in September 1986.
