North Park Bible Church (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada)
The North Park Bible Church in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan began services in 1960, and formally organized in 1961. The first building was occupied in 1961. Pete Unrau is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation was affiliated with the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren (EMB). It closed about 1979.
Bruce L. Thiessen: a.k.a. "Dr. BLT," Ph.D. (California School of Professional Psychology; 1990) grew up in the congregation then moved to California and became a Christ-centered clinical psychologist and a prominent country and rock song writer.[1]
In 1976 pastor Jerold Gliege left North Park Bible Church to join the New Covenant Apostolic Order which in 1979 became the Evangelical Orthodox Church. This dramatic change in their pastor had a devastating effect on the congregation causing it to collapse a couple of years later. Gliege is now Presiding Bishop of this new Orthodox denomination and he has a small congregation in Saskatoon, Holy Covalent Orthodox Church, that one report noted that they use Mennonite hymnals! Several others have joined and left the Mennonites.
