Moundridge is a town (1950 pop. 942, 2000 pop. 1,593) in McPherson County, Kansas. The first Mennonite settlers to come to this area were South German Mennonites who came to Kansas in 1874 via Illinois and Iowa. They founded Christian near Moundridge, which was later given up. However, the Mennonites of Moundridge and its community are primarily of Swiss-Volhynian background, who came to Kansas in 1874.

In 1957 Moundridge had a number of stores, a milling company, a co-operative creamery organized in 1932, Co-op Elevator Association organized in 1944, Farmers Co-op organized in 1936, Co-op Federal Credit Union organized in 1947, the Citizen's State Bank, and other businesses. In the early days it had a preparatory school, which was replaced by a modern high school. The Moundridge Journal has been published since 1886. The Mercy Hospital, operated by the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, is located at Moundridge.

In 1957 Moundridge had two General Conference churches, the First Mennonite Church of Christian and the West Zion Mennonite Church. In its immediate community the following churches were located: Hoffnungsfeld (see Hopefield) Mennonite Church, Eden Mennonite Church, Garden Township Mennonite Church, Emmanuel Mennonite Church and the Lone Tree and Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregations. The latter three were not of Swiss-Volhynian but Polish-German background.
