Pleun (Pleunis), official name, Ampleunis van den Hoevele (Huevele), an Anabaptist martyr, burned at the stake at Antwerp, Belgium, on 22 October 1551 (not 2 October as is stated in van Braght's Martyrs' Mirror), Peter Bruynen, Jan de Oude Kleerkoper, Martin du Petitz, and Jacob Peeters suffered martyrdom with him. Pleun was a linen weaver, born at Kortrijk (Courtrai) in Flanders. These martyrs have been commemorated in the hymn "Tot lof des vaders, soons, heyligen geest" (To the praise of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost), found in Offer des Heeren and also in the Ausbund (No. 10); and the hymn "Ic sal met vruechden singen een Liet" (With joy I will sing a song), found in Lietboecxken (No. 5), was written in memory of Pleun, Peter, and Jan.
