Grass River Hutterite Colony was founded in 1974 (Hofer says 1972) as a division from the Grand Hutterite Colony (Oakville, Manitoba, Canada).
A daughter colony of the Grass River Hutterite Colony is the Odanah Hutterite Colony (Rufford, Manitoba, Canada).
In 2017 the Grass River Hutterite Colony was a Schmiedeleut Group 2 colony.
