The Newport Hutterite Colony was founded in 1988 as a division from the Deerfield Hutterite Colony. 

Westwood Hutterite Colony in Britton, South Dakota, is a daughter colony.

In 2016 the Newport Hutterite Colony was a Schmiedeleut Group 2 colony. The minister was Glen Waldner and the manager was Joe Wurtz.
