Peter of Spain (Pedro de Soza, Dutch; Peter van Spagnien, official name), an Anabaptist martyr, who was won to the Anabaptist faith by a brother from Amsterdam, Jakob Jansz Ruytenbergh, a merchant whom he had met in Spain. He was baptized in Antwerp, Belgium, and received into the congregation. When he was about to return to Spain to his wife and children he was arrested, and after a valiant confession of his faith was drowned in a tub at Antwerp on 1 February 1560, with two brothers, Gomer de Clercq and Jacob Schot. With many other Anabaptist victims executed at Antwerp, he is commemorated in the song, "Aenhoort Godt, hemelsche Vader," found in the Lietboecxken.
