Lucas Hendricks (d. 1561)
Lucas Hendricks (Heindricx), an Anabaptist martyr, was seized at an Anabaptist meeting at Bruges in Flanders, and burned at the stake on 10 December 1561, with Adriaen Brael and four other companions; they died with the confession of Paul on their lips: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the, righteous judge, shall give to me at that day" (2 Timothy 4:7, 8). Lucas Hendricks was a native of Landegem in Flanders. His name is found in the hymn "Genade en Vrede moet Godvreesende sijn" (Mercy and peace must be to the God-fearing), found in Veelderhande Liedekens of 1569 and later editions. It was reprinted by Wackernagel.
