Een Liedeken van XII vrienden van Gent is found in the Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren (reprint BRN II, 556-559). It begins "Ick moet een liet beginnen dat sal ick gaen heffen aen." In this song 12 martyrs executed at Ghent, Belgium, in 1559 are celebrated. Their names are not found in the song itself, but a marginal note reads: for the names see the confession of Hans de Vette.

The 12 martyrs were Peter Coerten from Meenen, Kaerle Tancreet from Nipkercke, Proentgen his wife from Belle, Jacob Spillebout, Abraham Tancreet, and Maeyken Floris from Nipkercke, Anthonis van Cassele, Hans de Smit, and Marcus his brother, Hans de Vette and Miertgen his wife from Waestene, and Tanneken, wife of Hans de Smet.

This song (also found in Wolkan, Lieder, 62, 71) was found already in the Nieu Liedenboeek, of 1562. Another song celebrating these martyrs, "Een eeuwighe Vruecht die niet en vergaet," is found in Veelderhande Liedekens of 1569.
