Abraham van Loon, married to Jannetje Tirion of Gouda, was a physician and preacher of the Mennonite congregation of Gouda from about 1690 until his death. He was of some renown for his eloquence and delivered an address at Rotterdam on 6 June 1700, when the Flemish and Waterlander congregations in this town merged. A sermon entitled Christelijke Vredewensch was published at Rotterdam in 1700. Besides this he published De Jongeling onderwesen tot Doop en Avondmaal (Gouda, 1713). Before this he published the exegesis of the Gospel of Matthew by Hugo de Groot (Gouda, 1685). As a member of the progressive Lamist group he combated the conservative Zonist leader Herman Schijn, who had attacked the church board of Rotterdam, accusing it of admitting non-Mennonites to the Lord's Supper, in two booklets—(a) (with W. Suderman and Adriaan van Alkmaar): Verklaring en Verdediging van de Aanspraak voor het Avondmaal bij de Doopsgezinden te Rotterdam, and (b) (with Adriaan van Alkmaar) Twee brieven tegen H. Schijn.
