Beets, Pieter (1664-1710)

Pieter Beets, b. 1664 at Hoorn, Dutch province of North Holland, preacher of the Mennonite congregation there from 24 October 1690 to 1707 when he retired. He died 1 October 1710. In collaboration with E. A. van Dooregeest and Herman Schijn he wrote a brief course of instruction for the oncoming youth, Kort Onderwijs des Christelijken Geloofs (first ed. Amsterdam, 1698; it went through eight editions). He wrote also: Het bereidwillig sterven gesien in de zalige verhuisinge van wijlen Michiel Fortgens, a funeral oration (Hoorn, 1695).
