Kooiman is a Dutch Mennonite family name; they were mostly farmers on the island of Texel. Pieter Kooiman, who was then an old man, is mentioned in 1731 as a (lay) preacher of the Waterlander Mennonite congregation of Den Burg, Texel. (In the [[Naamlijst der tegenwoordig in dienst zijnde predikanten der Mennoniten in de Vereenigde Nederlanden|Naamlijst]] of 1743 he is listed as a retired minister.) A descendant of this family is Jan Kooiman (1865-1934), who served as pastor of the Mennonite congregations of Oudebildtzijl 1891-1893, Barsingerhorn 1893-1911, Workum 1911-1914, Akkrum 1914-1923, and Ternaard 1923-1930.
