Een Liedeken van ses vrouwen binnen Antwerpen gedoot . . . in't jaer 1559 is a hymn of 25 stanzas beginning with the words "Babels Raets mandementen worden aldus volbracht" (the orders of Babel [the Catholic Church] are thus executed); it celebrates the death of six Anabaptist women, who died for their faith at Antwerp in Belgium. Their names are not found in this song. As can be concluded from the official records they are Maeyken Cadts (de Catte), Magdaleentgen Andriesdochter, Aechtken van Zierikzee (see Aechtken Joris Adriaensdochter), all three executed on 18 or 19 July 1559, and Oude Maeyken (Maeyken Sprincen), Margriete van Halle (Grietgen Bonaventuers), and Maeyken de Corte, executed on 11 or 12 October 1559. The author of this hymn, which is the most beautiful of all the hymns of the Offer des Heeren, had known these martyrs personally, visiting them in prison, as the second stanza indicates. In this hymn he tells how they were betrayed by a "Judas" into the hands of the margrave, and were arrested in a house outside Antwerp, where the Anabaptists used to hold their meetings. In this raid the leaders of the congregation and most members escaped, only the six women being taken to prison. They were tried and tortured, but "the Lord well preserved their mouths" and they did not reveal the names of their fellow members. After much tribulation and suffering they were put to death; they died valiantly for their Lord.

This hymn was composed only one year after the death of these martyrs. It is found in the Dutch hymnals, Nieu Liedenboeck of 1562, Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren of 1563 and following editions, and Tweede Liedeboeck of 1583.
