Hendrik Bauwens, an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake at Ghent, Belgium, at eleven o'clock, 28 July 1573, on the Vrijdagsmarkt. He was a native of Mechelen, a lace-maker by trade. His name is not found in van Braght, Martyrs' Mirror; but the names of Jacob van der Weghe and Fransoys van Leuvene, who died as martyrs with him, are given there. For that matter van Braght is not quite complete in respect to the martyrs from Ghent.
