Hagerstown, Maryland, is the county seat (1955 pop. 26,000; 2007 pop. 40,000) of Washington County, in the west central part of the state. Two of the eight Mennonite churches in the county, Reiffand Paradise, with a 1955 membership of 375, have a Hagerstown address. Brook Lane, a mental hospital operated by the Mennonite Central Committee, was established near here in 1949.
