Dau, a Mennonite family name of Frisian origin, appearing in the Frisian congregations in West Prussia, was first mentioned in 1598 at Montau, 1601 at Orlofferfelde. In 1776, 13 families carried this name in West Prussia (without Danzig), and in 1935 (without Elbing) thirty persons. Outside Prussia the name is hardly known.
