Boeke, Isaac Herman (1846-1913)
Isaac Herman Boeke, a son of Jan Boeke and Jenny de Stoppelaar Blijdenstein, was born in Amsterdam, 28 December 1846, died at The Hague 27 July 1913. After his study at the University and the Mennonite Theological Seminary at Amsterdam, receiving the degree of ministerial candidate in 1870, he served the congregations of Zijldijk 1870-1872, Hengelo, 1872-1875, Wormerveer-Zuid 1875-1885, Hilversum 1885-1893, and Amsterdam 1893 until he retired on 2 November 1911.
In 1872 he married Sara Maria van Gelder of Wormerveer; their son Jan Boeke, b. 23 October 1874, at Hengelo, who was a professor in the school of medicine at the University of Utrecht and for a long period member and president of the board of the Utrecht Mennonite Church, was a well-known scholar, who published a number of outstanding medical books. Another son was Julius Herman Boeke, b. 1884 at Wormerveer, professor of economics at the University of Leiden and also a loyal member of the Mennonite congregation.
