Bibliotheca Reformatoria Neerlandica
Bibliotheca Reformatoria Neerlandica is the title under which a number of important writings from the Reformation period in the Netherlands were published anew, with introductions and notes by Samuel Cramer, professor at the University of Amsterdam and the Mennonite Seminary of Amsterdam, and F. Pijper, professor at the University of Leiden. The entire series, consisting of 10 volumes, of which the first appeared in 1903 and the last three in 1914, was published by Martinus Nijhoff at The Hague. This republication of very rare works is of great value for understanding the history of the church in the 16th century. Of special value to the Mennonites are volumes II, V, VII, and X, which present important writings by or for Mennonites, together with most valuable introductions. Volumes II, V, and VII were edited by Cramer, and X by Pijper, since Cramer had meanwhile died. Pijper began his part with an In Memoriam, in which he honored the services of Cramer. A brief summary of the contents of the parts that deal with the Mennonites follows.
Volume II, published in 1904 (683 pages), contains a reprint of Het Offer des Heeren, the oldest collection of Anabaptist-Mennonite martyr letters and songs, following the edition of 1570. Further, this volume contains Een Liedtboecxken, tracterende van den Offer des Heeren, following the edition of 1570, including the letters and hymns by and about the martyrs, which are found in other editions of Het Offer des Heeren with the Liedtboecxken, but are missing in the edition of 1570.
