The Bethel Hospital at Winkler, Manitoba, was supported by voluntary gifts from Christian friends, and controlled by the Bethel Hospital Society beginning in 1935 when a committee consisting of J. J. Enns, J. A. Kroeker, J. B. Dyck, J. D. Adrian, Dr. A. H. Unruh, C. H. Grünau, secretary, and A. A. Kroeker, chairman, secured the upper floor of the J. B. Dyck residence as a maternity home. The following September the first section of Bethel Hospital was constructed. This provided accommodation for 12 beds. In 1942 the south wing was added, thereby increasing the bed capacity to 36, and in 1946 the north wing was built of fire-resisting materials at a cost of $50,000. This raised the bed capacity to 40 and it also provided two excellent operating rooms as well as space for the installation of modern X-ray diagnostic equipment.

A staff of four registered and nine practical nurses, under Miss Susie Derksen, matron, ministered to the needs of the patients who numbered 354 males, 851 females, and 141 infants in 1948. There were 179 outpatients that year and Dr. C. W. Wiebe and Dr. A. P. Warkentin performed 509 surgical operations.

In 2001 the Bethel Hospital was amalgamated with the Morden Hospital into the new Boundary Trails Health Centre located on Highway 14 between Morden and Winkler. The old facility was used for a practical nursing program.
