Anneken van Roosbroecke, an Anabaptist martyr born at Lier in Brabant, Belgium, was burned to death 31 January 1551 (not 1550 as recorded in both Offer des Heeren and Martyrs' Mirror), at Lier, together with Govert (Godevaert Mertens), Gillis (Gielis van Aerde), and Mariken (Marie Vlaminx). Anneken was treated indecently by the executioner. She remained loyal in her faith, and at the strangling-post still sang: "Op U betrou ick,Heere." Concerning Anneken and her three fellow martyrs a song was written by the martyr-to-be, Hans van Overdam. This song begins:"Alsmen schreef duyst vijfhondert, En daer toenoch vijftich jaer" and was included in the early Veelderhande Liedekens of 1569, and from 1570 on in the Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren (also in Wackernagel and Wolkan).
