Jelis Claversz (d. 1571)
Jelis Claversz is an Anabaptist martyr found in van Braght's Martyrs' Mirror (Dutch edition, 536, English edition, 871) with the information that he was executed at Antwerp, Belgium, in 1571 with a large number of fellow martyrs. This martyr is, however, not found in the Antwerp records. Bibliographie suggests that Jelis Claversz is identical with Gillis van Havre, executed at Antwerp on 9 May 1571. This may be true. He may have been the same person as Jelis de Metselaer, who according to Martyrs' Mirror (Dutch version, 506, English version, 846) was burned at the stake at Antwerp on 2 May 1571.
