Van der Meulen (van der Muelen, van der Molen, Vermeulen), is a common family name in Flanders and the Netherlands, both Mennonite and non-Mennonite. There were two martyrs by this name: Pieter van der Meulen and Tanneken van der Meulen, both of Ghent. Jacob Pietersz van der Meulen was a noted elder of the Old Flemish Mennonites at Haarlem, Holland. Quirijn van der Meulen (Krijn Vermeulen) was an elder at Danzig, Prussia; Jacob van der Meulen a preacher at Leiden, Holland. In Leiden too there were in the 17th-18th centuries a number of deacons by this name. In recent times Karst Sybrand van der Meulen (born 1838 at Sneek, died 1927 at Amersfoort), educated at the Amsterdam Theological Seminary, served as pastor at Terschelling 1863-1865 and Nieuwe Niedorp 1865-1904; in 1904 he retired. His son Sipke Inne van der Meulen (born 1889 at Nieuwe Niedorp) studied at the university and the seminary at Amsterdam and was a minister of Terschelling 1913-1916, Balk 1916-1922, Ytens 1922-1929, Akkrum 1929-1943, and Heerenveen 1943-1954. In 1954 he retired.
