Koenraad Bremer, a Remonstrant minister at Amsterdam, who in 1740 published anonymously a treatise (Bedenkingen over den christelyken waterdoop) concerning Christian baptism, written by a deceased fellow minister, to which Bremer added five propositions concerning infant baptism (which he defended). Jan Wagenaar, the well-known Collegiant historian, answered Bremer, also anonymously, in Onderzoek over de oudheid en schriftmatigheid van de Kinderdoop (Investigation Concerning the Antiquity and Scripturalness of Infant Baptism) (Leiden, 1740; 2nd ed., Amsterdam, 1776); Herman Schijn and Abraham Verduin also answered Bremer, who replied with Verdediging van de Verhandelingen, . . . (Defense of the Propositions).
