Betgen van Maldeghem (or Betgen Martins), born at Deinze, Flanders, widow of Pieter van Maldeghem, an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake with four companions at Ghent, Belgium, on 21 July 1562, confessing her faith without dismay until her death and remaining true to it. Her name and the names of her fellow martyrs are found in a song of the Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren (No. 1): "Alsmen schreef duyst vijf-hondert jaer Ende twee en tsestich mede" (In the year 1562).
