Christian Family Center was planted in the year 2000 by Pastor Elton DaSilva and his father Pastor Elizeu DaSilva. The inner city church, meeting in a portion of the former Concord College campus, was conceived with the mission to address the needs of the Elmwood community in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with the good news of Jesus Christ. The church joined the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba in 2004.

The congregation has seen itself as a church with a heart for the poor and hurting of their community. It has been involved in several community programs, including breakfast programs in two local schools, a seniors' ministry at a local government housing complex, and a ministry to troubled youth at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

Elton DaSilva served until 2010. Edgar French began in 2011.
