Ambrosius Resch, a Hutterite brother, died December 1592 at Schakowitz in Moravia. He gained a certain significance as the author of a chronicle of the Hutterites, which because of its completeness and style was often copied and also used as model for similar books. Joseph Beck used it extensively for the text of his Geschichts-Bücher (1883), calling it "Codex A." Its title runs as follows: Ein klaines gründliches Denkbüechel, darin wirt begriffen und angezaigt, was sich seit dem 1524 Jar mit den recht christ glaubigen und fromen menschen hat zutragen, und wie sich die gamain gots wiederumb hat angefangen und vermört ist worden (small octavo, 146 leaves). The chronicle begins with 1524 and was continued by other writers up to 1640. At present it is in the city archives of Bratislava. Resch also copied the Bible concordance of 1530 by Leonhard Brunner (see Concordances), but enlarged its contents by including references to the Apocrypha. The original manuscript is lost, but a copy made in 1642 is still extant in the library of the canons of the Bratislava cathedral. It is remarkable for its unusual size, a handwritten book of 1040 leaves folio size.
