John Mellinger "J. M." Kreider (24 May 1869-28 February 1946) was born at Soudersburg, [[Lancaster County (Pennsylvania, USA)|Lancaster County]], PA. He was oldest of the 12 children of George and Anna Mellinger Kreider. He received all his formal education in the Soudersburg public elementary school. On 24 November 1890, he married Hettie Elvina Buckwalter and became the father of nine children. He was a member of the [[Grace Point Church of Paradise (Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA)|Paradise Mennonite Church]], Lancaster, and as a young man was very active in Sunday school work.
