Patijn, a well-known Dutch family of French descent. Andries Jansz Patijn, a Mennonite (b. ca. 1559), moved from Rombeke in Flanders, [[Belgium|Belgium]], to Haarlem, Holland, where he died in 1623. He was a brandy seller and a member of the Haarlem Flemish Mennonite congregation, as was also his son Daniel Patijn (1612-1638). Daniel was a skipper, maintaining a regular ship service between Haarlem and [[Alkmaar (Noord Holland, Netherlands)|Alkmaar]]; he died at an early age; his wife, a non-Mennonite, had the children educated in the Reformed Church and so the entire Patijn family has become Reformed. It is possible that Lieven Pattin of Maldeghem, Belgium, who is said to have lived there in 1630 as a well-to-do Mennonite, belonged to this family.
