Franz Goerz: elder of the Rudnerweide Mennonite Church, Molotschna, South Russia; born 13 April 1779 in Insel Kueche, Marienwerder, Prussia, the son of Heinrich Goerz (14 April 1739, Gross Montau, Gross Werder, Prussia - 25 July 1800, Insel Kueche, Marienwerder, Prussia) and Gertrude (Albrecht) Goerz (14 September 1743 - 16 October 1807, Insel Kueche, Marienwerder, Prussia). Franz married Maria (Goertzen) Dirks (27 January 1781, Rudnerweide, Stuhm, Prussia - ca. 1845, South Russia), daughter of Dietrich and Maria Goertzen and widow of Gerhard Dirks, on 5 April 1796 in Rudnerweide, Stuhm, Prussia. Franz and Maria had 17 children, of which only three or four lived to adulthood. Franz died on 23 March 1835 in the Molotschna Mennonite Settlement, South Russia.
Franz was ordained as elder in Prussia in 1819 and when the Rudnerweide church was organized in 1820 he became its first elder.
