Karl Philipp Spitta, (1801-1859), a German Lutheran pastor and hymn writer, church superintendent at Burghof, Prussia, Germany. His collection of hymns, the Psalter und Harfe, is found on the bookshelf of many a Mennonite family. Twenty-two of his hymns were adopted into the hymnal of the South German Mennonites and fourteen into that of the West Prussian Mennonites.
