Rein (Reyn) Edes was the brother-in-law of Menno Simons. His wife was Griet, a sister of Menno's wife. In his letter of 1 September 1558, to the brotherhood in Waterhorne Menno addressed to Rein his moving words of grief over the division in the brotherhood. Karel Vos and Cornelius Krahn, however, assume that this letter was written to Hoyte Renix.
