Franz Wiens: an elder in the Chortitza Mennonite Church in South Russia; born October 1810 in Rosenort, West Prussia, the second son of Peter Wiens (1778-1853) and his first wife, Anna Dick (ca. 1767-1813). Franz was married to Anna Dyck (10 April 1807 – 7 March 1844) and they had one daughter, Maria. Franz died 16 November 1853 in Rosenthal, Chortitza Mennonite settlement, South Russia, and was buried on 20 November.
Franz grew up in West Prussia and was baptized in 1829. His father Peter was a minister in the Rosenort Mennonite Church, having been ordained in 1823. Franz immigrated to South Russia some time before 1843, settling in the Chortitza Mennonite settlement. Franz was a preacher from 1843 in the Chortitza Mennonite Church and served as co-elder with Jakob Dyck from 1851 until his death in 1853. Dyck survived him by one year.
