Wagner, a family name found among the early Swiss Brethren; in 1529 there was a Marti Wagner in Therwil, Basselland, and a Hans Wagner in the Regensberg district. Bernhard Wagner (d. 1716/7), who was from 1712 an assistant of the Dutch ambassador Runkel and who settled the finances of the Mennonite emigrants to the Netherlands, was probably not a Mennonite. The martyr Georg (Jorg) Wagner was apparently not related to the former. Among the Hutterites in Moravia Georg Wagner (Wiser or Rader) was a preacher, who died in 1591 after having served for 31 years. In the 18th century some Wagners immigrated to America. Richard Wagner is elder of the Mennonite congregation at Frankfurt, Germany.
