Abraham Tancreet (or Tanghereet), an Anabaptist martyr, burned at the stake in Ghent, Belgium, 7 August 1559. He was born at Nukerke (Nijpkerke) in Flanders and was a tailor by trade. On the Friday following Whitsunday he was captured with eleven others. The execution took place on the Vrijdagsmarkt in Ghent at seven o'clock in the morning. Concerning Abraham and the other eleven brethren and sisters, who all remained steadfast, there is a song: "Ick moet een liet beginnen"(I must begin a song), which appears in the Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren of 1563 (No.14).   It is also mentioned by Wolkan.
