Clement Dirksz, an Anabaptist martyr, by trade a weaver in Haarlem, Dutch province of North Holland, was there burned at the stake on 26 April 1557, with Joriaen Simonsz. Their martyrdom is sung in three hymns: (l) "Hoort vrienden al hier in dit aertsche dal" (Hear, all ye friends here in this earthly vale), No. 20 of the Lietboecxken, tracterende van den Offer des Heeren, Een; this song is attributed to Bouwen Lubberts; (2) "Hoort toe ghy Christen scharen" (Hearken, ye hosts of Christians), found in Een nieu Liedenboeck (1562) and included in Wackernagel, Lieder; (3) "Hoort vrienden al te samen" (Hear ye friends altogether), found in Veelderhande Liedekens (1559). There is also a hymn composed by Clement Dirksz and his fellow sufferer Mary Joris, found in Veelderhande Liedekens, which begins "Hoort doch nu al te samen" (Now hear ye, altogether); its last stanza begins: "D'een heet Clement en een hiet Mary."
