Hans de Goudsmid (also called Hans de Zilversmid or Hans van Osnabruggen, i.e., of Osnabrück in Hannover, Germany), an Anabaptist martyr, was executed at Antwerp, Belgium, by drowning on 31 October 1562. Van Braght names a martyr Hans, who is obviously identical with this martyr, and gives the day of his death as 15 August 1561. But this must be wrong; according to the official records studied by Génard, no martyr was executed at Antwerp on that date. Hans de Goudsmid and six other martyrs, executed at Antwerp about the same time, are celebrated in a song found in the Nieu Liedenboeck (1562), which begins "Lieve Breeders, ick groet u met sanghen." The song was published by Wackernagel.
