Georg Karg was a German Lutheran theologian. He studied theology at the University of Wittenberg. In 1547 he became pastor in Schwabach, and in 1553 general superintendent at Ansbach. In the following years his position with the Wittenberg theologians was very influential. He was often, second to Melanchthon, spokesman for the group in making declarations. In 1557 he participated at the theologians' disputation at Worms (11 September- 7 October). Here he signed with Johann Brenz, Johann Marbach, Michael Diller, Johann Pistorius, Jakob Andreae, and Jakob Rungius an opinion drawn up by Melanchthon at the request of the elector Palatine Ottheinrich (Corpus Reformatorum IX 1842, col. 521, No. 6501) for the suppression of the Anabaptists (see Diller, Michael). It was printed at Worms in 1557 under the title, Prozess, wie es soll gehalten werden mit den Wiedertäufern, by Paulus and Philip Köpflein. It gives the German authorities suggestions for dealing with the Anabaptists, in order to lead them back into the church. Any of the Anabaptist leaders who did not comply with this demand were to be killed with the sword as insurrectionists and blasphemers.
