1955 Article
Association des Églises Évangéliques Mennonites de France is the official name adopted in 1925 by the Conference of Mennonites of France. Actually the French-speaking churches that had earlier (1907-1914) had a separate Association, in 1927 again formed a separate conference and added the phrase Groupe de Langue Francaise to the official name, whereas the German-speaking churches commonly referred to their conference as Konferenz der Mennoniten in Elsass-Lothringen, although their official and legal name is the one given at the head of this article. The Association is then the legally registered organization for the totality of the Mennonite congregations in France, actually functioning as two structurally distinct conferences. The legal president and secretary of the Association are the actual president and secretary of the Alsatian conference, who were for many years Elder Joseph Widmer of Mulhouse-Modenheim and Elder Hans Nussbaumer of Altkirch-Schweighof.
