The Fauquier County, Virginia, Old Order Amish congregation was organized in October 1945 under the leadership of William A. Simon, and Rudy Byler. The first settlers moved there from Delaware and were joined by others from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Iowa. The settlement is located 45 miles south of Washington, D.C., near Warrenton, Virginia. In 1953 the 55 members were led by Bishop Daniel Nissley.
