Livine (Vincken) Verwee, wife of Jan Vervest, died in prison at Bruges, Belgium, on 20 September 1558. Probably born at Ghent in Flanders, she wandered about with her husband, living for some time in Ghent, Amsterdam, Dordrecht, and other towns and from about 1554 on at Bruges. After attending Mennonite meetings for a number of years she was baptized on her faith in 1555 at Bruges by Elder Gillis van Aken. In the summer of 1558 a meeting she was attending was surprised and a number of members of the congregation, including Livine and her husband, were arrested. Livine died in prison, her husband having also died in prison about a month before.
