Doof (deaf) Betken, an Anabaptist martyr, was secretly drowned in a tub at the Steen prison in Antwerp on 16 March 1560, together with Betgen van Gent and Lijsken Smits. According to the official records her name was Elisabeth Heuvels, born at Kortrijk or Wervick in Flanders. All three women "persisted in their rebaptism." Their names are found in a song, "Aenhoort Godt, hemelsche Vader" (Give ear, O God, heavenly Father), No. 16 in Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren. This song is also mentioned by Wolkan, Lieder.
