Jan de Vlascoper, an Anabaptist martyr, named in H. Alenson's Tegenbericht op de Voorreden van 't groote Martelaer Boek (Haarlem, 1630, reprint BRN VII, 248), who was in 1576 in prison with Hans Bret at Antwerp, Belgium. From the records studied by P. Génard and published in Antwerpsch Archieven-Blad it appears that this Jan de Vlascoper is identical with Hans (Jan) Corneliszoon de Ruytere, a preacher of the Antwerp congregation.
