Daniel Fast, born 1826 at Halbstadt in the Molotschna, Ukraine, died at Wohldemfürst in the Kuban, in 1843, became village schoolteacher at Tiegenhagen and in 1862 at Blumenort, where he joined the Mennonite Brethren in 1864. Soon afterward he emigrated to the Kuban. Here he was ordained as preacher 14 January 1870, traveling evangelist 14 May 1872, with an annual compensation of 200 roubles, and as elder 5 May 1877. Through his moderate, intelligent, and genuinely pious and sober attitude he exerted a wholesome influence on the young Mennonite Brethren wing and worked with great blessing until 1902, when he retired because of his age and ill health.
