Thijs Hendriksz (Tijs Hermansz), an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, executed at [[Leeuwarden (Friesland, Netherlands)|Leeuwarden]] in [[Friesland (Netherlands)|Friesland]], Netherlands, on 2 May 1553. Thijs, who was paralyzed, was put to death with a young woman, Berendge, by drowning. They were bound into a sack and thrown from a boat into the town moat. There is a song commemorating the firmness of faith of these two martyrs: "Een nieuwe liet heb ic gedicht, van twee schaep wtgekoren." This hymn, found in the hymnal Veelderhande Liedekens, is included by Wackernagel.
